Things to keep in mind when visiting a display village
Before we get started, here are just a few quick tips when visiting a display home.
Research beforehand
Like most things, it never hurts to be prepared when visiting a display home. Visiting a display village without a plan can be a lot to navigate, so it’s best to have a strategy. Gathering information on the floorplans (perhaps even having them handy on your phone for reference), allows you to get an idea of what layout is best suited for your new home.
It can also save you time if you cherry-pick display homes that will suit your needs, lifestyle and budget. For example, if you’re a married couple with two kids and another on the way, there’s probably no point in visiting a three-bedroom display home. Instead, you would look for display homes that your growing family could comfortably live in.
Visiting a display home is an exciting experience and it’s easy to get wrapped up at the moment. We’re all for that, but we also recommend writing down any questions you’d like to ask, or specifics you want to look out for. Think of it as a shopping list; you can even tick things off as you go along. This way you won’t be on the way home when you suddenly realised you forgot to ask about the inclusions. Speaking of….
Ask questions
While it’s great to do some prep beforehand, the visit itself is a great opportunity to gather more information. For example, a display home is for showcasing the best of a builder’s work, however, it can be misleading. Always investigate what in the house is a standard inclusion and what is a luxury item. Also remember landscaping is unlikely to be part of any deal the builder offers, so use that for inspiration rather than a guide.
Make the most of your visit
It’s also great to translate what you see written down on a floor plan into the real world. It’s one thing to see that the house area is 200m2, but actually standing in the display home will really help you understand how big that actually is. Walking through the home will also help you imagine what it would be like to live there.
Even in houses that just aren’t for you, you might see something you like. Make a note of this as it is entirely possible you can work this into whatever design you finally decide to go with.

A Caloundra suburb about 15 minutes from the beach, Pelican Waters is popular with families, retirees and professionals looking for a quiet area to live. The suburb itself began development in 1990 and has since grown to have a population close to 6,000.
